How to vote for greener homes

In light of the publication of their environment manifestos, a new Election analysis that compares the main points of the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats’ policies on greening our homes has been launched by the Great British Refurb Campaign. UK householders can quickly assess how each party policy would help them pay for a low energy home refurbishment, how they would help create new green construction jobs, and what support they will offer for home energy generation.

Simon McWhirter, Campaign Director of the Great British Refurb Campaign said:
”Tackling the energy efficiency of our homes is an important party pledge that must not be overlooked. It has been identified as the front line in the fight against climate change and the UK will never meet its tough-to-tackle carbon budgets without getting this aspect of policy absolutely spot on. This scorecard will help UK voters get to the crux of the election manifestos and compare how each political party plans to reduce the impact our homes have on the environment.”

Over the next week, the Great British Refurb Campaign is seeking public opinion on which policies measure up best.

View Simon's election analsysis to cast your vote for which party you think is doing the most to deliver greener homes for everyone.  You can also comment on each of the policy areas and tell us what you think of each party.  The site will be continually updated to show which party policy is performing best in gaining the public vote.

Simon McWhirter adds: “It will be interesting to discover which policies resonate with voters and whether tax rebates, green loans, or minimum energy efficiency standards at point of sale carry the most favour with homeowners.”
