Oct 2009: 10:10 Campaign, Keepmoat and the Bristol House ecofit

We teamed up with the 10:10 campaign and our project sponsors, the developer Keepmoat, to run a competition which gave the winners Will and Cat a whole house refurb.

  • loft insulation
  • solid wall insulation
  • new LED lighting
  • new kitchen
  • low flow shower
  • new energy efficient windows and doors
  • a V-phase which reduces electricity voltage as it enters the house, saving energy
  • solar electricity panels
  • energy monitor, etc

This resulted in energy and carbon reductions in the property of about 80% and a 123% reduction in the fuel bills – ie they now make a profit because they can sell electricity back to the grid.

The second place householder got a whole house refurb as well, with 50% carbon cuts, and three other runners up got a £1000 refurb which cut there emissions by the requisite 10%.

Closed February 2012

The GBR campaign ran from 2009 to 2012 and ended with the passing of the green deal legislation.

Here are our successes
kevin
quoteThe campaign was set up three years ago with the ultimate aim of making it easier for owners to eco-refurb their homes. And to a massive extent we achieved just that. The Green Deal, which is a government policy which will enables all of us to refurb our homes with no upfront costs is a game changer and we are proud to have been a catalyst and indeed on occasion cattle prod to that happening. So now when the landscape of home refurb is changing dramatically, it is time for us to take a back seat too and let the politicking end and the real world Great British Refurb commence. signature
