The Great British Refurb is calling on the UK Government to introduce cash rewards such as a rebates on council tax to ensure people whose homes have been improved by installing energy efficiency measures are financially rewarded. We also want to see the Government cut VAT on the costs of refurb.
Following all your support in the first year of the Great British Refurb campaign the Government responded positively to your demands for a national programme of home eco-retrofit and a financing mechanism to help householders install low carbon upgrades. While there has been good progress there is still much to be done. We are asking you to use your voice again. Join the Great British Refurb in asking the Government to give a cash reward to those who install energy efficiency and low carbon measures and help you keep your money in your pocket.

I often film homes for Channel 4 that use piddling amounts of energy, where the owners invest in super insulation, heat recovery units and solar panels. But there are more than 26 million homes already in existence in Britain, most of which are inefficient, leak heat and cost a fortune to run. Given that Government’s target is to reduce UK emissions by 80% by 2050 and housing accounts for around 26 per cent of Britain’s man-made carbon dioxide, we need to transform our homes into super-eco performing dwellings.
